Sacrament of Initiation
Date and Place
- Scriptural Foundation- John 3:5 "Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."
- Minister- Usually a Deacon, Priest, or Bishop will perform the sacrament, but in emergencies anyone can perform the sacrament if the words and intentions are correct
- Receiver- The unbaptized, converts to the Christian Faith, or newborn infants
- Frequency- The sacrament of Baptism can only be received once in a persons life, even if they have been baptized from another Christian Faith because the Church accepts it as valid
- Effect- Baptism has may effects, such as the removal of Original and Actual sin, "New Birth" within a person, first experience with God, and an indelible mark is placed on the receivers soul
- Form- "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
- Matter- Water, candles, White Garment, and oil
