Sacrament of Mission and Service
My Three Readings:
- Scriptural Foundation- Genesis 1:27-28 "God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them. And God blessed them, and God said to the, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth"
- Minister- The spouses with clergy as a witness for the Church
- Receiver- Each spouse must be baptized without any impediment, if one spouse isn't baptized it's called a natural marriage not a sacramental marriage
- Frequency- Once and to one spouse as long as that spouse is living or If one spouse dies, the other spouse may validly remarry
- Effect- The two become "one flesh", Perpetual and exclusive covenant partnership, Free, total, fruitful, faithful nuptial love
- Form- "I do" from the groom and bride
- Matter- Mutual consent and covenant to live together as husband and wife and the consummation of the sacrament
My Three Readings:
- 1 John 4:9-11 "This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."
- I chose this reading because it shows what kind of true love God has for us and that is the kind of undivided love that the bride and groom should have for each other. God sent his only son for our salvation, the least we can do is give all of our love to that special someone in or life.
- 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails... And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
- I chose this reading because this shows what kind of intimacy and promise a couple should have during their wedding. All of these traits of love should be present between the couple and prominent throughout their lives. If a couple has this then they have everything.
- Ephesians 5:25-29 "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church."
- I chose this reading because Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of true love, as he gave up his own life, for the salvation of all of us. We should all strive to be followers of Jesus and hope to become half the man that he was to our spouses.
